What are some of the things library trustees do?
The Goodwin Library trustees adopt bylaws, rules, and regulations for its own transaction of business and for the government of the library, in accordance with state statute. The Board prepares, authorizes, and seeks adequate support for an annual budget indicating what support and maintenance of the library will be required out of public funds for submission to the town. They employ a competent and qualified librarian to serve as Director and evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the Director in fulfilling his/her duties and responsibilities as prescribed in the Bylaws. They determine and adopt written policies to govern all operations and programs of the library, in consultation with the Director as necessary. The Board cooperates with other public officials, boards and the Farmington community in support of a good public relations program within the community. They also develop long-range goals and strategies for the Goodwin Library and work toward the achievement of these goals.
